tank location

The most common question i receive is “where is my tank located?”

Pre. 1973 homes

Pre 1973 homes will have a single compartment tank with the  main pumping lid in the center. These tanks are usually outside what would be considered the main bathroom. The tank is usually about 10’ from the home.

After 1973

After 1973, your home should have a 1000 gallon, dual compartment septic tank. These tanks will have a lid at each end of the tank approximately 6’ apart.

Pump Systems

septic  systems that require a pump to move the effluent to the drainfield will have a separate tank for the pump. Therefore, there are now 3 lids that need to be exposed. If you have a septic alarm in your home, you have this style of septic system.

Newer Septic Systems

Newer systems 2003 to current will have risers. This brings the lids at or near the surface of the ground. 2 or 3, 24” diameter lids are the norm for newer systems.
